The Fault in Our Stars Book Review

After the diagnosis with Dyslexia and Dyspraxia one of the recommendations was to start reading books more so I started to read  The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Many different critics have contrasting opinions on the books from describing  it as 'predictable' and 'overrated' to one of the 'most heartbreaking' but 'amazing' books ever written. It is a contemporary romance novel about Hazel, a girl suffering from cancer, who meets another cancer patient, Augustus at a cancer patients’support group. I read the book over two months due to other commitments such as assessments, travelling and many other things. In one night I managed to read two quarters of the book as I couldn't put it down, I was so interested to find out what was going to happen next.  My analysis of the book as a whole was a beautifully written book, but the love story was just an underlining quality which I loved, but as the characters as the main base of such an emotional journey in the book. Hazel Grace was such a sassy but stubborn character, but the qualities bring out how under all of the fieriness she is just a girl who wants to fall in love, drink and experience her teenage years. Augustus Waters is a boy who is a headstrong realist  with qualities of  being a soft-spoken charmer who understands the situation Hazel lives in as everyday portraying her life as a struggle. Reading the relationships of these two characters develop is like typical two teenagers who form a romantic connection , fall in love with each other and make mistakes.

In February  I was wide awake so
Cookie dough  with this book was a perfect night in!
For me personally the 'terminally illness' is just an underlining theme, I see two people with their own qualities within their characters who have strong thoughts and feelings towards each other. They are just trying to fit in in this world; watching other people flirt, fight or struggle each and every day and night. These two individuals are just trying to experience everything that life throws at them. Exposing themselves to love, pain and sadness throughout this book I saw them fixate on something of mutual enjoyments which leads them on a journey. Many life lessons can be taught from these two inspiriting characters who cherish the time together and facing all the obstacles along the way. If you decided to read this book then make sure you have tissues at the ready!

.

The Fault in Our Stars teaches to appreciate life and be graceful for every day through  the experience of Hazel-Grace and Augustus waters with the illness as a secondary concern. It teaches you to be strong with who you are and be grateful for the people around you. John Green is an incredible author using a secondary concern as a twist in a romantic story line. People will have different views and opinions on the book, but dealing with my own personal issues this book was an escape of the stress in my life and reading this, I felt the heartwarming feelings and heartbreaking emotions throughout every chapter; I laughed, cried and even spat my drink everywhere at one point but I would highly recommend this book.

Rating: ★★★★★

I am extremely looking forward to seeing the film and I am glad that Shailene Woodley is playing Grace and Ansel Elgort looks like a great Gus.
Thank for reading my personal review of The Fault in Our Stars! I apologies for any grammar, spelling or sentence mistakes I am still getting used to this!
